With deep sadness, The Florida Bar Foundation Board of Directors and staff learned of the passing of Miami civil rights attorney Randall C. Berg Jr. yesterday. Randy served as Florida Justice Institute’s executive director for more than 40 years. He made numerous, immense contributions to the cause of equal justice in Florida and was honored multiple times by the Foundation. Most recently, he was named the 2017 Jane Elizabeth Curran Distinguished Service Award recipient, and he received the Steven M. Goldstein Award for Excellence last year for FJI’s work to secure accommodations for disabled prisoners. Randy’s life-long commitment to improving the lives of Florida’s poor and disenfranchised impacted thousands.
We at the Foundation are exceedingly proud to have worked with Randy and were honored to watch as he built FJI into the extraordinary program it is today. Our thoughts are with Randy’s family and the FJI team.
