The Florida Bar Foundation, a non-profit organization in Maitland, FL seeks two dynamic Program Officers to join our Team in Maitland: a Program Officer in the Grants Department and a Program Officer in the Pro Bono Department. Both positions are expected start by October 9, 2017.

The program officers must be ambitious and team-oriented individuals who are self-starters comfortable in an evolving and fast paced organization. Program officers must be flexible, team players requiring minimal supervision, and approach work with a solution-oriented view. Applications must be received by July 28, 2017.



The Grants Program Officer will report to the Director of Grants. The program officer will significantly contribute to the grant application review and reporting processes including analyzing outcomes and other grantee performance measures, including compliance and accountability measures. The program officer will conduct research, perform due diligence research, analyze, and prepare recommendations related to substantive legal issues around social and community justice initiatives. The program officer will manage grantee relationships with “alumni” of Foundation initiatives related to law school programming: civil clinics, summer fellows, Equal Justice Works fellows, and other projects.

The Pro Bono Program Officer will report to the Director of Pro Bono Partnerships. The program officer will support the Director of Pro Bono Partnerships in program design, implementation and management of pro bono initiatives utilizing both traditional and innovative pro bono service models that include the use of technology. The position works closely with the Director of Pro Bono Partnerships to develop and implement an evolving Pro Bono Strategy that is aligned with the organization’s mission and priorities.

Both program officers will support greater collaborations and partnerships amongst stakeholders. Through a working knowledge of developments and trends in the legal, social services, and philanthropic sectors, the program officers will support a wide range of Foundation initiatives, including assisting and closely working with the Directors in program design and implementation. The positions will also establish and manage relationships and collaborative efforts across the state with leaders in the legal & social services professions including: grantee organizations, social service and community service providers, bar associations, law firms, and law schools. The program officers will assist in developing materials for local and national presentations.


Both positions require strong legal and business analytical skills, as well as demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. The following are required qualifications:

  • JD from ABA accredited law school required. Florida Bar member or willingness to take the Florida Bar Exam within the first 2 years of employment.
  • Demonstrated passion for seeking justice and improving the lives and conditions of low to moderate income and vulnerable populations in Florida.
  • Be an innovative, outside-the-box thinker who strives for excellence at all times, and who is able to multi-task and manage projects from inception to completion with limited supervision.
  • Ability to represent the Foundation in high level settings that include grantee CEOs, law school faculty and deans, law firm partners, bar association, community, social service and philanthropic leaders.
  • Ability to motivate, influence, challenge, and inspire confidence across disciplines and to all levels of staff and stakeholders.
  • Proven collaboration skills for high-profile initiatives involving multiple stakeholders across multiple organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing and shifting priorities.
  • Strong organization, time management, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent management skills, including: people, time, and resources with a wide array of people and projects.
  • Advanced computer and technology skills including Microsoft Office, case management or customer relationship management, project management, social media, and mobile technologies.
  • Proven track record in successful project planning and implementation, preferably across multiple teams or organizations.
  • Ability for overnight travel throughout the state and to national conferences and meetings.
  • Prior experience as a practicing attorney in private practice or legal services preferred.
  • Experience in human centered design and rapid prototype design processes preferred.
  • Experience with business process analysis, Six Sigma, or Kaizen theory preferred.
  • Experience working with pro bono attorneys or previously having provided pro bono legal services preferred.

Part-time Marketing Communications & Social Media Coordinator


  • Write, proofread, edit, post, place and/or distribute articles, news releases and promotional copy for internal and external publications, websites and social media.
  • Plan, develop and implement social media campaigns using Hootsuite and other social media tools. Engage on social media with the Foundation’s grantees and partners.
  • Generate reports using social media analytics, and track other media campaigns. Prepare reports for The Florida Bar Foundation board on the Foundation’s communications initiatives.
  • Produce slide decks and other presentation materials using PowerPoint and other software.
  • Design fliers, ads and graphics.
  • Post content to the website as needed.

Required education and experience

A bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of experience in marketing communications, advertising/public relations, social media campaigns and/or journalism. Experience can include internship experience.

  • Excellent proofreading skills
  • Strong critical-thinking skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media platforms

Desired skills

  • Strong newswriting, information-gathering and storytelling skills.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite programs, particularly Photoshop and InDesign.


25 hours per week, mostly during normal business hours. Some after-hours work and very limited travel may be required. This is an on-site position, although some telecommuting may be allowed, pending supervisor approval.


Hourly rate of $25 to $35/hour, depending on experience. No benefits.
