Judge Edwin A. Scales III appointed to board of The Florida Bar Foundation

MAITLAND, Fla. —Judge Edwin A. Scales III
of the Third District Court of Appeal has been appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to the board of The Florida Bar Foundation, a statewide charitable organization whose mission is to provide greater access to justice.

Scales earned his bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Florida. Prior
to his judicial appointment he was a sole practitioner in Key West concentrating in appellate litigation, commercial and real estate litigation, administrative law and mediation.

Scales was reelected four times to The Florida Bar Board of Governors, serving three years on the executive committee and chairing its legislation committee and its Citizen’s Forum. He also served on the Florida Commission on Ethics as vice chairman.

Scales served on the Federal Judicial Nominating Commission for Florida’s Southern District from 2000 to 2005. Shortly thereafter he was appointed twice to the Judicial Nominating Commission for Florida’s 16th Judicial Circuit. He served a four-year term on the City Commission of Key West and chaired the Board of Trustees of Florida Keys Community College.

Scales, a Florida Bar Foundation Fellow, began his term July 1.
