Seeing the potential for impacting various groups through legal aid, William Sklar, a member of Carlton Fields’ real estate and finance practice group, recently made a Legacy for Justice pledge of $10,000.

“I’ve been particularly supportive of efforts and programs for those who are most vulnerable such as children and the disabled,” said Sklar. “I really believe the Foundation has been at the forefront of providing that advocacy through its direct support of programs and cases on the local level, and I’m very motivated to support that advocacy.”

Sklar, who has been an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law for almost 40 years, teaches his students that professionalism includes constantly giving back.

“Whether it be hands-on pro bono cases or supporting organized efforts such as the Foundation’s, it is a responsibility,” said Sklar. “I think The Florida Bar Foundation does an amazing job in identifying needs and, where it can, committing to support programs fulfilling those needs.”

After listening to his friend John Patterson, a past president of the Foundation, speak about the Foundation at a recent Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section event, Sklar knew his personal giving philosophy was in line with the Foundation’s mission. Furthermore, he was encouraged to know so many of the RPPTL Section’s leaders, including Debbie Goodall and Laird Lile, support the Foundation as Legacy for Justice members.

“Their message resounded with me,” said Sklar. “I thought it was appropriate for me to step up my involvement and giving to the foundation. I’m humbled to be among that company.”
